The beauty of life in nature supplies an unending source of inspiration for subject matter. Peterson Laird is a life long dog, horse and cat owner, and the love she feels for her animals is reflected in the paintings and drawings.

Portrait art is rendered primarily in watercolors or pastels, but also includes graphite and colored pencils. Commissioned portraits of people, horses, dogs, cats or other animals can be drawn or painted in 2-4 weeks time. If you would like a special memorial of a beloved family member or pet, that can be done from any selection of photographs that you might have. You can combine any number of photographs to create a one-of-a-kind composite painting or drawing that meets your needs perfectly!

Included in the portrait examples are portraits of children of all nationalities; Golden Retrievers, Afghan Hounds, Labrador Retrievers, Corgis, Shetland Sheepdogs, Yorkshire Terriers, Cocker Spaniels, Papillons, Arabian Horses, Quarter Horses, Andalusians, Paint horses, Shetland Ponies, Calico cats, American Shorthair cats, Black-footed Ferrets, Lion Headed rabbits and wildlife studies of Coyotes, Grizzly Bears, Moose, Polar Bears, Bison, Burros, Red-Tailed Hawks, Osprey, Wolves, Bighorn Sheep and Brown Pelicans. Many are watercolor paintings, but there are also some graphic pencil drawings, pen and ink drawings and pastel portraits as well.


Victoria Peterson Laird has been doing commissioned portraits since 1970, and has had her work exhibited all over the United States as well as in Japan. She has been teaching art since 1979 and is the Director of Visual Art at William Penn University in Iowa, where she has been teaching since 1991. Laird is a member of the Equine Artists Guild.
